In mid-December 2006, last month, iolo Technologies released System Mechanic 7
and System Mechanic 7 Professional which have been causing such problems that many users have resorted to uninstalling this previously much loved program.
System Mechanic 7, and its professional sibling, install a service, the
iolo DMV Service, which, at the time of writing, simply behaves like a virus
– there are no other words for it. It stops programs from starting; the list is endless
– read these examples :
etc..., etc...,
and our own TUT program. The behaviour of this program which, according to reports, injects foreign code into programs, is nothing other than virus-like in all its aspects, starting from the catastrophic effect it has on so many programs, to the fact that even if you uninstall System Mechanic 7 this program stays behind and continues its calamitous interference.
11-Feb-2007 Update : After fixing the problem in version 7.1.5 of System Mechanic, iolo Technologies incredibly
reintroduced it in version 7.1.6 yesterday, so this page continues to be relevant.
